Instruction Time

one 90-minute tutorial per week for nine (9) weeks
Monday, January 26 – Monday, March 30, 2009 and
Monday, April 6 – Monday, June 8, 2009

New Hope is excited about our new Mini-Tutorial in Writing for the younger middle school ages (grades 6 and 7, ages 11 and 12). Beginning in January of 2009, New Hope will give this age group the option of registering for just 9 weeks of instruction in writing. This format is designed for those children who may not be ready for a full year of a more formal corporate learning experience or those who may have other commitments during the academic year. This format also gives parents the option of getting acquainted with New Hope for a smaller financial commitment, i.e. 9 or 18 weeks as opposed to a full year.

The Mini-Tutorial in Writing will be offered at our current Danvers location on Monday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30AM. The first 9-week session will run from January 26 through March 30; the second will run from April 6 through June 8. Students may register for one or both of these 9-week sessions.

Parents of a student new to New Hope must submit an Enrollment Application and Registration Form; New Hope will then set a date for a Family Interview prior to confirming registration. For more information, contact us at (978) 750-3633 or by email at joan.smith@newhopetutorials.com.

Course Description

New Hope eagerly invites you to join our nine week mini-tutorial where the focus is writing, writing, and more writing! This tutorial focuses on equipping students with the skills and confidence they need to write well in a variety of genres from expository/research papers to creative writing and poetry. Through hands-on training of the writing process, students will develop such skills as organization, creating a thesis statement, writing for an audience, and writing with a personal voice. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • an introduction of the writing process
  • the five-paragraph essay
  • creating voice and tone in writing
  • expository essays
  • creative writing and poetry

Not only will students be developing these skills through the practice of writing, but also through reading other authors’ and students’ work. As students analyze and critique other pieces of writing in a workshop setting, they will grow even further in their abilities as young writers. We are excited to see our students get a jump start in their writing, as we hope to instill a love of writing in them for years to come!
